The GFWC Hudson Junior Woman’s Club invites area women who are interested in volunteer opportunities in the community to
attend a wine and food pairing event from

The Pink Panthers will hold a fundraiser dance at the American Legion Post 48, 37 Central Street, Hudson, (American Legion has donated the hall for the dance) from 7:30-11:30 p.m. Anthony Michaels from “A Goodtime DJ’s” will be the DJ. There is a small cost for the tickets, and all proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event. There will be a 50/50 raffle, along with various gifts to raffle off. The St. Joseph Family Medical Center– Hudson Office will hold an Open House/ Ribbon Cutting at 6 p.m. There will be health-related presentations, as well as giveaways and free screenings.
Saturday, April 17
The Hudson Fish and Game Club, 53 Pine Road, Hudson, will hold its eighth annual Chili Cook Off at 1 p.m. The public is welcome. There will be first-, second-, and third-place cash prizes. Enter the contest or be a judge. There is a fee to enter the contest. A pulled pork sandwich dinner will be served from 4-5 p.m.

As a public service to our area residents and their pets, the Litchfield Historical Society has again organized its annual Rabies Clinic at the Fur and Feather’s grooming, daycare, and boarding establishment on Route 102, Litchfield, located behind and to the right of The Little Lobster Boat restaurant, from 10 a.m.-noon. Dr. Sarah Garland and her veterinarian technician, Melissa Sheldon, are donating their time and expertise to vaccinate dogs and cats. There is a small fee for the Rabies vaccination per pet. Terri Briand, the Litchfield Town Clerk and Tax Collector, will be available to register Litchfield dogs, ensuring that their owners meet the April 30th deadline for dog registration. Residents from surrounding communities are welcome to take advantage of the Clinic and bring their pets to be vaccinated. The clinic will be held rain or shine!

Get Ready to Drop Everything and Read! National D.E.A.R. Day is April 12. Families in Hudson will join millions of other families across the country as they celebrate National D.E.A.R. Day and drop everything and read together for 30 minutes. To help motivate families to share the joys of reading together, the GFWC Hudson Junior Woman’s Club is inviting Hudson families to sign the
“Drop Everything and Read” pledge and
be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble. Pledge forms are available in the children’s room of the Rodgers Memorial Library and can be dropped off at the library anytime before 7 p.m. on April 14. The drawing will be held at the Junior Woman’s Club meeting that evening.

Litchfield Presbyterian – A Community Church, 259 Charles Bancroft Highway, Litchfield, is offering a free community breakfast on the second Saturday of every month. The next breakfast will be served from 7-10 a.m. All Litchfield and Hudson residents are welcome. The breakfast is free, but donations to benefit the Litchfield community food pantry will be accepted.

Laura Goudreau, a senior at Alvirne High School, is hosting an event called Hoops of Hope, presented by the Alvirne Ambassadors, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. At the event, participants will shoot 300 free-throw shots and get sponsors. All money raised will go to the Hoops of Hope foundation. It raises money for orphans and others in Africa affected by AIDS/HIV. This is an open invitation to the public to come and watch the event. There will be baked goods and lunch sold at tables, music playing, and a video presentation on the Hoops of Hope foundation.

The Hudson Police Department will be
holding its 12th Citizen’s Police Academy.
The Academy will be held for nine consecutive weeks for approximately two to three hours during each session. Each week, a different topic will be covered. The tentative schedule of the Academy will be on Wednesday evenings, from April 14 through June 9, between the hours of 6:30- 9 p.m. The Academy is open to Hudson residents, Town business owners/managers, and members of community service groups.
