launched Windham High School, with teachers and students called upon to invest remarkable efforts in implementing both academic curricula and student enrichment programs. Windham students and teachers are rising to the remarkable challenge, building high school sports teams, performing arts programming, student government, and extra-curricular clubs from scratch. Challenged by visionary school Superintendent Frank Bass to extend students’ learning beyond the school walls, a major focus at the school is service to others. Answering the charge to develop globally responsible students, programs like Model United Nations, S.M.I.L.E.S community service club, and Windham High Student Council have blossomed in just a few short months. These groups, and hardworking school Principal Richard Manley, have established groundwork that will characterize Windham High School and underscore its school-wide commitment to humanitarian values. The upcoming Windham High School cancer awareness week is an example of moving those values from concept into action. With less than a year of experience, and a student body comprised of just freshman and sophomores, what has been accomplished at Windham High School is nothing short of extraordinary. awareness week is the “Styles & Smiles” Breast Cancer Charity Fashion Show and Raffle, slated for the brand-new Windham High School Theatre on Sunday, April 11, at 2 p.m. Since the first “Styles & Smiles” meeting in December, the fashion and raffle event grew from a single idea about helping

people with cancer to a community-wide effort. Through collaboratively planning the event, the local Team BellaDonna charitable breast cancer group helped guide the students towards meaningful learning for all involved. The cancer events have required significant coordination. After months of preparation and effort, the first Styles & Smiles Breast Cancer Charity Fashion Show and Raffle opens its doors to the public on Sunday, April 11, at 1:30 in the afternoon. Little fashionistas to stylish seniors will be treated to styles from GAP, GAP Kids, Delia’s, Deb Store, Marshalls, Men’s Wearhouse, It’s All About Moi, and Litl Desi9ns. Models reach across the ages, as students and staff, local women’s group representatives, and area children stride across the stage to show off spring and summer styles for men, women, and children. Hair designs by Windham’s award-winning Soleil Salon & Spa will transform models, several of whom have been directly impacted by breast cancer. A comic “Pink Project Runway” competition, judged by school “celebrities,” a student-produced cancer awareness film, and Windham High jazz band music are also planned. Dozens of raffle prizes include merchandise, golf packages, and Red Sox and Celtics tickets. Generous donations from area businesses are allowing 100 percent of the proceeds to benefit the Avon Breast Cancer Foundation, a 501(c)3 public charity. Cancer educational materials and a national Avon Foundation spokesperson will provide health information. Tickets for the Styles & Smiles Breast Cancer Charity Fashion Show and Raffle are available at Windham High School, Soleil Salon and Spa, Crown Jewelers, www.teambelladonna. weebly.com, and at the door.
As the third term closes, and its inaugural year is written into the town’s history, Windham High School administrators, staff, and teachers will have much to celebrate what has been accomplished in bringing the school online, and leading it towards distinction. The upcoming cancer week events and the way they have evolved from the students and staff are a good indication of good things to come, as the student body grows to welcome a third class of students next year and experienced juniors lead the way.

Pickles was operating southbound on Bridge Street when his attention was drawn to a vehicle traveling towards him on Bridge Street. As the vehicle got closer to Sergeant Pickles, he noticed that the driver had his cellular phone out on top of the steering wheel and appeared to be texting on his telephone; Sergeant Pickles then watched the driver texting as he drove by. Once the vehicle passed Sergeant Pickles, he turned around and stopped the vehicle. The operator was found to be Stephen Judd, 20, of Dracut,
MA. Judd stated that he was aware that texting was illegal while operating a vehicle, and that he knew he should not have been texting and driving. Sergeant Pickles conducted a motor vehicle record check on the driver, which revealed that his driving privilege in the State of New Hampshire had been suspended. Sergeant Pickles then arrested Judd for Driving after Suspension and Prohibited Text Messaging While Operating a Motor Vehicle. The penalty for texting and driving is $100 per NH RSA 265:105-a.
