Ogie Alcasid’s labor of love
The singer-songwriter is a serious artist…
CONCERTS, films, recording, song- writing and television. Name the medium and Ogie Alcasid now definitely excels in all of them. The very talented singer, com- poser and comedian comes to Los Angeles with the love of his life, Regine Velasquez, to stage “Heart 2 Heart”. On June 5, 2010 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium ,be a part of a musical journey of love that will make you fall in love again.
Ogie is very comfortable with comedy as he has been making us laugh on the TV show Bubble Gang for the past 12 years. We’ve seen him grow with the show and we never get tired of his jokes. What makes Ogie shine in comedy? Of course, his sense of humor is unique and his unwavering determination to succeed. “In Bubble Gang or whatever comedy show I am involved with, I take my part seriously,” he says.
As one of the Philippines’ premiere comedians, he still find ways to challenge himself on the Bubble Gang set every week. “Every week is a challenge. Same with live shows like “Heart 2 Heart” , every show is different. We put a lot of prepara- tions to make sure that each live show is as entertaining if not more entertaining from the past shows we had,” Ogie states. In comedy, Ogie relates that being cur- rent and fresh is important. “Sometimes when you are deep in your work, it’s hard to be current especially when you are not really abreast with the news or what the young generation is into – they happen to be a huge chunk of our audience.” That is why for Ogie what comes out in any show is labor of love. As a comedian, Ogie draws inspiration from his daily experiences. To him, what’s important is not fitting the norm. “You have to think out of the box,” he explains. “You have to get into the mold when you are acting but
at the same time, you try to be as natural as possible because comedy works when it looks real or when it reflects reality.” Also Ogie is an active participant. Ogie
isn’t the kind of actor who waits for a script and blindly follows it. He makes sure to suggest jokes and gags for the show.
“I
think I’ve always been an active participant in most of my shows,” Ogie says. As an actor, ako yung gagawa, so I’d better pitch some ideas that I think I will be comfort- able with and that I think is funny.” Ogie is not just a comedian and a suc-
cessful TV host, singer and movie star. He is also a record producer. Ogie Alcasid is really serious with his entertaining craft. Turn heartaches into monster hits.
That’s Ogie Alcasid’s biggest contribution to humanity’s fight against global warm- ing. Believe me his songs can make flowers bloom! “It’s a force that evokes so many emotions. It’s so easy to draw from it when I’m writing songs. Heartache sells more than falling in love. It’s like a wickedly bitter coffee that’s so devilishly delicious when you sip it first thing in the morning when you wake up,” Ogie enthuses. Ogie Alcasid is the friend everyone wants to have. He is gentle, proper, funny. No, he doesn’t want to be taller. He’s tall, just smaller than Kobe Bryant. Everything about Ogie is big. “Small brother” is a misnomer to someone who has gigantic presence and charisma. Ogie proved that the ordinary can be extra-ordinary with tenacity, hard work, focus and a burning desire to be the best. And a huge talent that he nurtures with love and respect for his public. “I do think about my public when I write my songs. I will never write anything that is vulgar, or demeaning and derogatory.”
“Songwriting for me is like painting to a painter. I will start something and if

I can’t feel the flow, I will discard it and continue writing another day. If the cre- ative juice gets going then I finish a song in one sitting. Ogie Alcasid is a better man because of his music. His music is better because he is a better man.
So catch him live in “Heart 2 Heart” with Regine Velasquez, Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes on June 5, 2010, Saturday at 7:30PM at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
