Global Village, Essence of World in Gilbert
co-founder Gayle Disch says the idea for Essence came as a fundraiser for the sister cities group. “Gilbert Sister Cities wanted to create an event that would raise funds for our Student Exchange Program and expand and support our Gilbert Global Village Festival,” she explains. “Gilbert Sister Cities will take a new step in cultural exchange this summer, when we send Bradyn Beus and Leah Fracco to China.”
Gilbert Global Village Fest
The, it’s the 6th Annual Gilbert Global Village Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat., April 17 at the Gilbert North Civic Center Campus, 50 E. Civic Dr., on the northeast corner of Gilbert and Civic Drive, south of Warner in Gilbert.
Sponsored by the Town of Gilbert in partnership with Human Relations, Cultural and Arts Promotion Commission, Gilbert Sister Cities and Gilbert Public Schools, attendees will celebrate cultural diversity through the arts, music, dance and sports, with culinary delights spanning seven continents. There will be art demonstrations, educational booths and an international merchandise “bazaar” to purchase art,

The Parade of Nations will consist of the Town’s children dressed in attire representative of their native lands. There will also be hands-on activities for children and adults; an Avenue of the Arts with local artisans including photographers, wood carvers, painters, calligraphers, watercolor artists, ceramicists and more displaying their wares; and a Taste of the World to sample a variety of different foods. This family event is free.
“Thanks to the generosity of Gilbert Town Square owners and merchants this event has become a much- anticipated reality!” says Disch.
