RigaTony’s makes move for customers
by Joan Westlake
To offer customers “more” is what RigaTony’s owner Mike Lopercio says was the motivation behind the restaurant’s move from its Arizona Avenue location of 15 years to 1850 E. Warner Rd. in Tempe. The grand opening of the new place – about 4 miles east of the old – is April 3. “We were at the end of our lease and there were so many things that needed improvement in the building plus parking was going to be forever a problem,” he explains. “We started looking for a place that was affordable and interesting. We wanted something with character because character is one of our special ingredients.”

MOVED: Mike and Chrissy Lopercio at the new RigaTony’s in Tempe.
They found an ideal building on Warner Road in a shopping center on the northeast corner the McClintock-Warner intersection. Towering trees and mature landscaping enhance the trademark Old World feel of RigaTony’s. Parking is ample.
Lopercio’s wife, Chrissy, head of operations, says customers from all around the Valley will find the new place, which is a mile from the 101 and near I-10, easier to get to than the previous spot. The Sun Lakes crowd especially will find a shorter drive to enjoy the daily $5.95 Early Bird Special from 4 to 5 p.m. “We’ve received hundreds of calls and emails of congratulations wishing us good luck in the new location,” says Chrissy. “They all add ‘Don’t change the food!’ We are going to add to the menu but it will still be RigaTony’s with the same popular dishes created by same chefs and crew. You’ll even see some of the same artwork and knickknacks. Our loyal customers will immediately feel at home.” Walking in the expansive, stone-clad entrance, customers step into a marketplace with to-go food in cases and a convenient take-out area. Church pews brought in from Michael’s hometown of Syracuse, NY and a large photograph taken of the RigaTony’s family on its first anniversary make for a warm welcome. The market features RigaTony’s homemade desserts, pastas, sauces and salad dressings.
