Art Online AZ debuts
To continue the work that the now closed Art on Boston Gallery in downtown Chandler started, former gallery co-owner Laurie Fagen is launching an online business, Art Online AZ at www.ArtOnlineAZ.com, to promote fine art and fine artists.
Fagen will be continuing the Corporate Art program, to provide fine art for new and existing businesses in
the area; Art Partner program, to provide fine art for local gift shops; starting Art Destinations, to provide fine art exhibits and classes; and a myriad of other efforts to continue to promote the arts in Arizona. There are new opportunities for promotions for artists, including artist listings; portfolio pages for artists who don’t currently have a website or who
ALS fundraiser at Basha Gallery
SanTan Sun area residents have until April 8 to purchase tickets for the Zelma Basha Salmeri Gallery of Western American and Native American Art Gallery Fundraiser for the ALS Association.
The event, held at the gallery at 6 p.m. Fri., April 16, is catered by AJ’s Fine Foods. Tickets cost $42 and must be purchased in advance. Only a limited number are available. Proceeds from the event help support research and patient services for those diagnosed with
ALS and will be donated in honor of Bob Price, a Sun Lakes resident diagnosed with ALS in May 2009. The gallery features more than 2,000 pieces of art by renowned cowboy artists and Native American contemporary artists, with works ranging from basketry, pottery, alabaster and marble sculptures to kachinas, watercolors, pastel and charcoal drawings, and bronze sculptures.

Local artists create Governors Arts awards
A Chandler artist along with five other Arizona artists specializing in wood pieces have created the honoree awards for the 29th Annual Arizona Governors Arts Awards, taking place Mon., April 19 at the Orpheum Theatre in Phoenix.
The artists, whose work can be found in permanent private and museum collections, include Gary Scarpulla, a Chandler woodturner specializing in ornamental woodturning using a mechanical lathe capable of pattern generation, and Ahwatukee resident
Richard Altenhofen, whose wood art was featured at the Chandler Center for the Arts.
The Governors Arts Awards are presented by Arizona Citizens for the Arts, the Arizona Commission on the Arts and the Office of the Governor to recognize outstanding achievement and contributions to Arizona’s arts community. Tucson arts advocate and supporter Shirley Chann will be given the annual Shelley Award; other awards recipients will be announced at the event.
Tickets for the event are $150. A range of sponsorship levels are available for individuals, businesses and arts and culture nonprofit organizations.
