Chandler City Council meeting recap
candidates for re-election.
On the agenda set before the Chandler City Council at their March 25 meeting were the following items and actions reported by City of Chandler Public Information Officer Jim Phipps:
• Approved a $4.4 million construction contract with Standard Construction Company for the widening of the Chandler Boulevard/Dobson Road intersection. • Approved a resolution authorizing an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Newtown Community Development Corporation to expand the City’s First Time Homebuyer’s Program using $707,000 in federal HOME Grant funds.
• Approved a $3.1 million agreement with Versaterm, Inc., for a new police communications, records and data management system. • Approved an agreement for $200,000 with Toter, Inc. to purchase 4,000 replacement garbage and recycling containers.
• Approved a resolution that amends the City Council Rules to suspend for 30 days prior to a primary election and continuing through the general election, the broadcasting of any shows or the sending of any mailings by incumbent Council members who are
• Approved the introduction and tentative adoption of an ordinance for a preliminary development plan and zoning change for 4.7 acres located on the northeast corner of Riggs and Gilbert roads to allow for construction of a mini storage facility.
• Approved special event liquor licenses to the Si Se Puede Foundation for a Cinco De Mayo Festival and the Chandler Regional Medical Center for a Dancing with the Docs Fundraiser, both to be held May 1. Additionally, the Council continued until May 27 the introduction of an ordinance to approve a Preliminary Development Plan and rezone the former 152-acre Motorola site on south Price Road for the development of a science and technology park.
The Mayor read proclamations recognizing Navy Week and Boys & Girls Club Week in Chandler, as well as proclaiming April 2010 as Fair Housing Month. Mayor Dunn and members of the Council closed the meeting at 9:40 p.m. with news on several upcoming events, including The Chandler Jazz Festival, the annual Family Easter Celebration and a meeting to seek comment on a FAA Airport Noise Study.
Waste Not restaurant campaign continues
“Step Up to the Plate for Waste Not,” a 10-day campaign encouraging area residents to dine out to help raise money for local food rescue organization Waste Not, continues through April 4 at participating restaurants.
Each time an order is placed for a “Waste Not Special” at a participating restaurant, half the proceeds benefit Waste Not’s food rescue mission. Streets of New York, with Chandler locations at 2990 E. Germann Rd., 4991 S Alma School Rd. and
5965 W. Ray Rd., and The Living Room Wine Café and Lounge at 2475 W. Queen Creek Rd. in Chandler are participating in the campaign, along with other restaurants throughout the Valley.
Waste Not is a nonprofit Valley organization that rescues food daily from restaurants, resorts, caterers and other food purveyors to give to hungry local families. The organization uses five refrigerated trucks to transport perishable food the same day it is picked up to a variety of nonprofit organizations that serve the
Valley’s hungry. Waste Not collects and delivers more than 1.9 million pounds of excess perishable food annually to a variety of partners including schools, after-school programs, senor programs, transition homes, daycare centers and assisted-living facilities.
