An A To Z Of Body Parts Which Yoga Improves

I have had a lot of positive feedback from people about the A to Z lists I have written over the last couple of months ... so I am continuing on that theme!

Arms will become strong and toned Bones will become denser and stronger Core muscles of the abdomen & back will become strong Diaphragm will become used properly allowing you to breathe effectively

Endocrine system will become more balanced & hormones regulated Feet will become more flexible & less prone to injury Gut digestive function improves as a consequence of massaging & movement of the abdominal area during yoga postures Hair, skin & nails will become healthy as your body’s systems begin to function better Immune system the system which fights off disease will function more effectively Joints throughout the body will become more flexible Knees will become stronger & alignment improved by equally strengthening the muscles surrounding the knees Lymphatic system will improve in so many ways - encouraging good immune system function Muscular system there are over 650 muscles in the human body – yoga works on most, if not all, of them Nervous system encouraging good nervous system communication throughout the body Organs throughout the body are stimulated & their function improved Pelvis is an important link between upper and lower body – tightness in the body can distort pelvic alignment leading to pain & injuries – yoga helps to regain integrity of the pelvis & improve posture Quadriceps the muscles of the thighs will improve – they will become stronger, with healthy alignment, be lengthened & allow for good range of movement at hips & knees Reproductive system will be improved – hormones regulated; body in good reproductive health & va-va-voom alive and well! Shoulders are an area in which many people hold tension – yoga encourages a release of that tension & awareness of improved posture Thoracic spine the middle of the spine becomes fairly stiff in many people and will become more flexible with regular movement – as will the rest of the spine! Urinary system the kidneys, urinary & excretory system become more efficient with regular yoga practice Vestibular system which contributes to our sense of balance & sense of special orientation will become better attuned Waist will become smaller as body tone & posture improve Xyphoid process one of many bones in the body to be affected by yoga (and one of the only body parts beginning with x!) Y-ligament just one of the ligaments of the hip joint which yoga will condition Zygomatic bone learning to relax muscles of the face will relieve tension around the bones of the face

Yoga allows the body to work in a variety of ways. You can work or relax your body each time in different ways to respond to its needs in that moment. In my classes I offer a sense of development. No two classes are ever the same; just as your body or mind are never the same on two different days. Your practice will continue to evolve and strengthen as you do.

Come to a yoga class and experience what these and other postures could do for you. In my studio there are classes Monday to Saturday for people with a range of abilities and experience.

individuals, teaching in a way that allows practices to be adapted to suit the individual needs and abilities of each student. My classes take place in my yoga studio: a warm, carpeted and calm environment only a mile out of Tavistock town centre and with plenty of parking. I can offer use of studio mats and other equipment as needed or can sell you a range of mats or equipment. My classes are very friendly, down-to- earth, and appeal to people from many walks of life.
