ver a 100 people packed in to Chesham Town Hall on the evening of Monday, March 15 at a meeting hosted by Chesham Town Council to hear the councillors proposed housing plans which have recently been announced.

The Government housing target means Chiltern District Council has to find room for 2,900 new homes in the district over the next 20 years.

They have proposed that Chesham take 650 of them, with the former hospital site in Hospital Hill and the Amersham and Wycombe College site on Lycrome Road being identified as two key sites to accommodate these 650 new homes. The district council have opened up the sites to public consultation until April 23 and those present at the meeting were urged to have their say before it is too late.

As well as the two proposed sites above, a further 92 sites have been earmarked for construction with many on current Green Belt

or Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Chesham residents are being urged to speak up as these proposals will change the shape of Chesham over the next 20-30 years.

Concerns raised at the meeting included increased traffic congestion, increased pollution

and the type of housing that will be built and to ensure any new housing is affordable for people in the town and not for people on high wages coming in to the town. You can see the full plans on- line by visiting:
