Chesham Rugby Club are enjoying a good run in to the end of the season with recent wins

over Chinnor, Beaconsfield, and Banbury.

The club, who currently sit fourth in the Beds, Bucks & Oxon 1 North league are looking to cement their place at the top of the table for a tough close to the 2009/2010 season. This year has seen a number of new players become regulars in the 1st team alongside some veteran members of the club.

The Stags suffered a difficult few weeks in February as some close defeats and the loss of Captain Gary Szulc to an ankle injury disrupted the team. It fell to senior club members to pull the side together and retain their focus and some good results have followed. A number of players have been promoted from the 2nd team to cover for injuries and unavailability, but hard work on the training field has seen little disruption on the field of play.

The Club’s second team have also been fairing well with notable victories over the likes of Chiltern and Fullerians in recent months. The second team Captain Mark Rosser has been able to field a strong side most weeks due to a core of committed second team players, augmented by some up and coming youngsters from the club’s junior section.

With both teams playing away to Wheatley on Saturday, March 18 the club arranged a coach to transport players and supporters to the Oxon based side. The day showed that

Stags enjoying good run

the club are committed to the social side of rugby as well as playing hard on the pitch. The Six Nations period has seen large numbers making full use of the clubhouse whilst training nights have seen a good number of players turn up to hone their skills.

The women’s side are also enjoying a successful time with a draw to Hammersmith and Fulham and an important game against Ealing Jades at home.

The home game also saw club

history being made as Boo and Abbie Chard became the first Mother and Daughter to play in the same team. With a strong recruitment drive going ahead the Women’s side are also hoping to look back on a successful season.

With some exciting plans in the pipeline for the summer months ‘Bucks friendliest club’ are hoping to move from strength to strength into the next season by increasing membership and by improving results on and off the pitch.
