Make the most of travel

LoosEnds is local company formed to provide travel and social opportunities for single people aged 55 and over.

The idea behind the company is not a dating agency or marriage bureau, but to give single people the opportunity to expand their range of experiences with travel, holidays, cirty breaks and social activities with new friends and travel companions. The company states: “The aim is to offer members a selection of choices and costs for their holidays. We also aim to provide a selection of daytime and weekend activities and we listen to members views at our monthly meetings or social breaks”. Membership is by annual subscription.

Ticket office hours set to be cut on the Tube

Ticket office opening hours at tube stations could be reduced after proposals put forward by Transport for London (TfL).

The RMT say they are opposed to these cuts and the union are putting together evidence on the effects of having stations operating with limited staff. They also say affected stations could become a paradise for muggers and drug dealers.

Stations on the Metropolitan Line could be affected including Amersham, Chesham and Chalfont & Latimer as well as those across the capital. The office at Chalfont & Latimer station could see a reduction of two hours during the week while on Saturdays it could be open for just one hour from 10am-11am. Chesham station office, which is currently open from 7am-10am, could lose an hour Monday to Friday, closing at 9am while remaining closed on Saturdays and Sundays. However, TfL have said that all of their stations will be staffed throughout the day from first train to last to help and reassure passengers, and all stations with ticket offices will continue to have one, with opening hours that meet customer demand.

They say they have just started consultation and urge the trade unions to engage responsibly in that consultation and are committed to no compulsory redundancies.
