The Barbican International Jazz and Blues Festival 2010 brings music, fun and entertainment to the historic quayside quarter of Plymouth.

The Festival begins on Saturday May 1, runs until May 9 and encompasses the May Day Bank Holiday Monday. So organisers will be pulling out the stops to put on a fan- tastic, free day of music, street entertainment and the glorious Grand Festival Jazz Parade – complete with jazz umbrella waving.

The Grand Parade and Swing Sunday will see thousands taking to the streets. The annual Festival features free and paid-for gigs in a network of venues in and around the Barbican.

In the Festival’s third year, headline acts include Claire Martin and Ian Shaw, with the country’s top two vocalists combining for a performance at the Sherwell Centre on May 7 staged in conjunction with the University of Plymouth’s Peninsula Arts.

Award-winning fiery UK jazz outfit Emperical will open the Festival on Saturday May 1 at the Barbican Theatre, and trombone wielding funkateer Dennis Rollins and his hot band Badbone will play the same venue on Sunday May 2.

Local acts performing at this annual extravaganza of music and performance include
