Financial Highlights for Year Ending 2009
Since 1991, the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation has provided more than $13,707,044 to support NHRMC and its mission of quality health care services.
Revenue
Some of the highlights of fiscal year 2009 included the 2009 Founders’ Gala that funded the renovation of the NHRMC Emergency
Department to provide a pediatric-friendly space for our young patients and their families. Te Pink Ribbon Event and Red Dress Lun- cheon helped provide vital funding for education, screenings and early detection of cancer and heart disease in women throughout our region. Proceeds from the 18th annual Coastal Classic Celebrity Golf Tournament provided wireless technology at Cape Fear Hospital campus, which allows patients and their family access to friends and loved ones during hospitalization. Te 2009 Employee Campaign broke all previous employee fundraising records with more than $108,000 raised to support all areas
of the hospital with a focus on the Employee Benevolent Fund. Tis fund provides loans and grants to employees in need of financial as- sistance. Te Nursing (Resource) Education Fund assists with registration and travel for continuing education needs. Te year also featured a first for the Foundation. Te Eshelman Foundation challenged us to raise $125,000, and they would provide a
1:1 match to enable us to purchase a Neonatal/Pediatric Critical Care Transport vehicle. Not only did our donors rally with extraordinary support, businesses and organizations throughout the community also helped us realize the goal. Te transport vehicle has been ordered and will be featured in an upcoming issue.
Expenses
Fundraising expenses for fiscal year 2009 totaled $319,248
which included expenses directly associated with fundraising activities like our special events, direct mail and employee campaign. Operating expenses totaled $125,181 for costs associated with supplies, professional fees and donor recog- nition. We are so fortunate to have New Hanover Regional Medical Center provide administrative support for the Foundation in the way of salaries, benefits, rent and de- preciation. Tis means more donor funds go directly to the purpose for which they are intended and at fiscal year end 2009, 74¢ of every dollar raised went directly to NHRMC programs as directed by donors. Despite the difficult finan- cial times we all experienced in 2009, the Foundation main- tained and in many cases exceeded our expectations to benefit NHRMC and the patients we serve.
