end of year review - part 2
Euro First for Swanline
Swanline Print placed an order for the worldʼs largest format, flat bed semi automatic die-cutter. The SOL 2517, manufactured by converting specialists NURI, has a maximum cutting size of 1700mm x 2500mm with full auto-stripping and downstacker. The ma- chine, which is due for delivery in July 2009, reinforces Swanlineʼs position at the forefront of large format Point-of-Sale and Litho Laminated production, all on
a confidential trade only basis. Claiming a European first, Swanlineʼs Simon Kirby said, “We viewed a SOL 2517 installation at Baird Display in North America, which strengthened our resolve to purchase this particular model. It was Stockport based Altrate- ch who brokered the deal on our behalf. Being already known to us, it was their professional advice and service that helped to secure the order.”

Wide mouth closure for beer
Finn-Korkki is manufacturing a wide mouth closure suitable for bottled beer. This new RipCap closure is a ring pull closure made from aluminium with a diameter of 42mm. This RipCap is Finn-Korkki's biggest ring pull closure that can be used with beverages like beer or cider, on glass, plastic and metal bottles. The package gives a sensation as if drinking from a glass. Good usability is re- alised in the easy open nature of the RipCap closure and in the way beer smoothly flows from a wide mouth bottle. Equipment to con- vert a crown capper to use RipCap closures is manufactured by Finn-Korkki. Installation takes about 3 days including production test- ing and training of line operators.

Linpac rPET production starts
Production has started on Linpac's two new rPET sheet extrusion lines at its Featherstone facility, fol- lowing a £3m investment to double capacity at the plant. The facility will now be able to manufacture 400 million Rfresh trays a year, which meet FDA food contact safety standards, on its four produc- tion lines. Linpac uses 100% post-consumer waste
(PCR) flake on all four lines, the first two of which were installed at the start 2008. "Several other suppliers of recycled plastic content for the food industry rely on the flake manufacturers to filter out any chemicals that shouldn't be present in the recyclate," said Linpac Packaging's director of innovation Alan Davey. "Our plant removes all chemicals in-house, in addition to the recycling company's processes, meaning buyers can have complete faith in our range of products."
