39 BUCKS COUNTY WOMAN
Schade has many fans eager to throw her a bone. “She gives good information, and I can trust her,” said Sandy Adolf, who met Schade at Life on the Leash and is planning to have her Standard Poodle, Bo, train with her. Bo went out for a test run recently, and Adolf was instantly impressed. “She took him out and totally had him in control in two seconds,” admires Adolf. “She just has a very professional way about her. He paid attention.”
“She has a special bond with dogs that most people don’t have,” confirms Tom Bresnahan, Schade’s husband. “The dogs can see her aura. They immediately connect to her.” Bresnahan added that Schade bonds with her human clients, too. He is clearly still smitten by those qualities that consistently charm both dogs and their owners. “She’s awesome and beautiful,” he gushed. “She’s energetic and outgoing and genuinely happy.”
After making the brave leap from sales to Schnauzers ten years ago, Schade has no regrets. She is an accomplished dog trainer. She made a DVD, wrote a book, appeared on television, and opened a store catering to pampered pooches. Yet after all that, she still greets each new client as an exciting opportunity to enhance the relationship between a dog and its family. “It’s a light bulb moment when the dog and person connect,” she said. “You empower a person. It’s like, ‘Look what my dog is capable of! Look what I can do!’” Anyone involved in a difficult dog relationship—who knows the perils of a pooch that barks incessantly, tackles unsuspecting visitors, or goes apoplectic at the sight of a fellow dog—knows how a demanding dog-ship can really unsettle a home. Schade is the one who swoops in like a Fido Fairy to redefine boundaries, restore harmony and give the gift of peaceful, loving companionship. “I get to walk in and be a superman,” she said.
So what’s next in her canine career? Schade said she has ideas for new dog toys to manufacture. There’s also that idea for a doggy novel she’s been tossing around. And, with her seemingly endless supply of puppy-like energy, there’s no reason to doubt that those plans won’t come to fruition. After all, Schade is one of those people who doesn’t live her life on a leash. She takes risks. She follows her spirit. She uses her confidence, creativity, curiosity and canine camaraderie for inspiration. And it’s never led her astray. Going forward, it’s certain that she’ll keep her paws on everything, keep sniffing around for ideas, and keep working like a dog to improve the lives of the furry, four-legged, wet-nosed, best friends among us.
