Years of hard work has paid off for Accessible Accessories

A local business that began with a concept a decade ago is now a success story.
Accessible Accessories recently received a $50,000 Innovation Voucher from the province which the company will use to enhance their computer system.
With 30 years experience in the car dealership industry Don Doonan, president and CEO of Accessible Accessories, knew exactly what would make the process of selling and buying car accessories more pleasant for all concerned.
His company developed a computer system giving car dealerships instant access to what customers may want complete with prices and any additional installation costs.
“We now have over 600 dealerships using our system,” said
Doonan, who does not supply any accessories but has made the information to access the information almost instant.
Doonan says most business experts didn’t grasp the concept when they were putting their business plan together. Some predicted it would not work.
The fact that they were dealing with computer software rather than a tangible asset also made it difficult to explain and therefore attract financing. Doonan and his wife were so convinced of their idea they sold their home and put all the money into the fledgling business.
“I don’t gamble. When you’re creating a business concept you have to know that it will work,” he explained.
By 2003 they’d incorporated the company but a year later still had no paying customers.
