BLICKLING HALL

Built in the early 17th century, Blickling Hall (photographed left) is one of England’s great Jacobean houses. The spectacular Long Gallery houses one of the finest private collections of rare books in England. Set in extensive gardens with an 18th-century Orangery. It is surrounded by an historic park with miles of woodland and lakeside walks. The Hall is open 11-5pm, Wednesdays to Sundays from 27 February to 18 July and

Wednesdays to Mondays, 21 July to 5 September, with extra opening days in April and May. The gardens and restaurant have longer opening hours.

The Lavender House

EATING OUT

The Lavender House restaurant is owned by local celebrity chef Richard Hughes and featured on Rick Stein’s food heroes. The restaurant is listed in the Good Food Guide and has two AA Rosettes. All produce used in the restaurant is purchased locally and produced in house. Fresh bread is baked daily, local meats and game are used and fresh fruit and vegetables are sourced from local farm shops. EXPLORE THE BROADS

The world famous Norfolk Broads are to the east of Broadland The Broads National Park is part of the family of National Parks of Britain. The Broads are best known as a boating centre and exploring the waterways by boat is a wonderful way to relax and look out for the many varieties of birds and wildlife. The Broads are blessed with several popular wildlife reserves, including an unusual floating conservation centre at Ranworth.

STRUMPSHAW FEN

This reserve, maintained by the RSPB, features reed beds, woodlands and orchid-rich meadows with the possibility of seeing marsh harriers, bitterns and kingfishers. In spring and summer the flowering meadows are home to dragonflies and butterflies, including the spectacular swallowtail. The Fen is open from dawn until dusk all year round except Christmas Day. Children’s activities are available, with guided walks for birdwatchers and viewing points including one which is wheelchair accessible. Registered assistance dogs are the only dogs allowed.
