In Your Guts with Harry Flint

We are not alone. Each of us is intimately associated with a vast array of micro-organisms that live on our skin and in our intestines. These microbial cells outnumber human cells in the body by ten to one, and are collectively capable of a far wider range of chemical conversions. Our often uneasy relationship with the microbes that inhabit our intestine is influenced by diet and by interactions with our immune system. So, how much do we really know about our own microbes and how can we use this knowledge to stay healthy?
