‘Sweet Charity’ takes Tempe stage
Tempe Little Theatre presents the classic musical “Sweet Charity” through April 4 at Tempe Center for the Arts.
Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. March 20, 26 and 27 and April 2 and 3; 2 p.m. March 21, 27 and 28 and April 3 and 4; and 7 p.m. April 1. Tickets are $20 for adults and $18 for seniors and students.

Jazz Society jams at San Marcos
The Crackerjack Jazz Band entertains for the Arizona Classic Jazz Society from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sun., March 21 at the Crowne Plaza San Marcos Golf Resort, 1 N. San Marcos Pl. in downtown Chandler.
The cost is $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers. Those younger than 18 are free. Become a member on the 21st and get in free; yearly membership for couples is $35, and for single it’s $25.
Jazz in April
April is designated as Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM). Begun in 2001 and supported by the U.S. Congress in 2003, the Smithsonian Museum honors jazz as both a living and historical American art form.
The Arizona Classic Jazz Society celebrates JAM with The Sun City Stomperz. Hailing from the Sun City area, the group is becoming well known around the Valley. They play traditional jazz mainly from the first half of the 1900s in the full- bodied New Orleans style.
The ACJS Jazz Appreciation presentation takes place at the Crowne Plaza San Marcos Golf Resort from 1 to 4 p.m. on April 25.
The cost is $10 members, $15 nonmembers or free for those younger than 18. Those who join on the 25th get in free.

Sixth-graders shine at CUSD art fair
The 8th Annual CUSD Art Masterpiece 6th Grade Art Fair is held at the Chandler Public Library’s Downtown, Basha and Hamilton branches April 5 through May 23 and will include 2,250 pieces of artwork created by sixth- grade students throughout the Chandler Unified School District.
Art Masterpiece is an all-volunteer, national art enrichment program that sends volunteer art guides into classrooms to teach the students about art. Using a print or reproduction of a famous art masterpiece as the basis of their lesson, volunteers give a brief discussion about the artist and their particular style of art. The students then create a hands-on art project that reinforces what they learned.
