Artist stays active despite down economy

Despite the slow economy, Gilbert artist Sandra Neumann Wilderman is keeping busy, creating new work and finding alternative venues and art exhibitions throughout Arizona to display and sell her work. She is exhibiting her art in six shows now through April.

“After painting directly with watercolor for 20 years, I find the spontaneity, the fluidity and the stylistic eclecticism of pouring paint to be a freeing and spiritual experience,” Wilderman says of that technique.

One of Wilderman’s woven paintings was also juried into the 24th Annual Arizona Aqueous National Exhibition in Tubac, which runs through March 21.

Wilderman was invited to create a three dimensional work of art for the exhibit, “Ten Transformations: Framing Renewal, an invitational exhibition of new works exploring a metamorphosis of unlikely materials” at the Chandler Center for the Arts located, 250 N. Arizona Ave. in Chandler through April 16. She will be on hand at the reception for artists to discuss her sculpture “American Woman” from 7 to 9 p.m. Fri., March 19.

Wilderman “pours” acrylic paint on watercolor paper and then weaves two paintings together to create one work of art. She will have a second one-person exhibit of her poured and woven paintings at the Gilbert Court House in March.

The awards reception is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Fri., April 23.

Also in April, Wilderman will exhibit her work at Gallery 225, 225 N. Gilbert Rd. in Gilbert’s Heritage District. Then, on Sat., April 24 she will participate in the “Third Annual Artists at the Arboretum” at Boyce Thompson Arboretum, in Superior. After showing her portfolio to Elizabeth Cress-Sweet, Wilderman had a one-person show in the lobby of the Southeast Regional Library in Gilbert with her award-winning watercolor paintings of florals, still lifes and Southwest architecture. In addition to being a full time artist, Wilderman is also corporate art consultant with Art on Boston
