With competitive manufacturing,
Gaussin hopes to position ATT as the
next generation of IMV in container ter-
minals, in competition with AGVs and
automated shuttle carriers. Gaussin re-
tains responsibility for marketing.
As previously reported, the ATT was
officially launched at the SITL Dubai
trade fair last November. It will be dem-
onstrated at next monthnulls SITL fair in
Paris. Developed by Gaussin affiliate
EVENT, ATT is the subject of 13 differ-
ent patents. Thse include HERO Stop &
Start, which is claimed to reduce fuel
costs by 30-50%; the detachable Power
Pack: and Quick Move, which is claimed
to reduce maintenance costs by 60-70%.
ATT is claimed to comply with Stage
3b/Tier 4i emissions regulations that
come into effect next January.
Gaussin has reported a 35% increase
in turnover last year to €10.5M, of which
licences and technology transfer deals ac-
counted for 45%. Export sales increased
from 50% to 70% of turnover. At the start
of 2010 the order book stood at €4.8M.

A report into standards at the Tanzanian

years. The report was compiled by the TRIPLEX 1999’-01-’04 99-2001 5650HRS
portnulls Stakeholdersnull Committee, which
was set up in 2008 in response to per-
ceived poor performance at the port.
The committeenulls findings, which were
based on interviews with port users and
completed in January, revealed that con-
tainers now take an average of 12 days to
clear Dar es Salaam, down from 20 days
one year ago, while the average vessel dwell
time has fallen from 12.7 days to 3.8 days
over the same period.

tributed to the improved performance,
but the report highlighted the success of
the policy of transferring containers to
inland container depots to reduce con-
gestion.
However, the quality of the services
offered by rail operators Tanzania Rail-
ways Limited (TRL) and Tanzania Zam-
bia Railway Authority (Tazara) was de-
scribed as a serious impediment to port
efficiency, despite the fact that they now
handle just 6% of all cargo passing

The report also noted that poor rail
and road links continued to affect the
efficiency of the transport sector as a
whole. The government has promised to
