Toughbook H1 Field, which it claims
to be the world’s most rugged
handheld tablet computer.
The Toughbook was primarily de-
signed for field personnel in sales, first
responder, inspection and mainte-
nance applications, but was selected

smouth Virginia Terminal, which im-
plemented an earlier model, the CF-
08 Toughbook. This unit had an IP54
rating and Panasonic challenged ports
to reconsider whether the IP65 and
higher ratings they demanded were
actually needed.
The industry, however, seems
wedded to the idea that anything less
than IP65 is just not “rugged” enough
for a port environment. In any case,
