ALVIN AILEY AMERICAN DANCE THEATRE
The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Company is on a world tour and
is making a stop in the O.C. The history of the troupe is quite interesting;
their grass roots beginning back in March of 1958 in of all places, the Young
Men’s Hebrew Association in New York. Led by Alvin Ailey, a group of young
African-American modern dancers work hard and perform beautifully. That
dedication has earned them a place as one of the most prestigious American
Dance companies in the world. These “Cultural Ambassadors” have per-
formed for over 23 million people in 48 states and in 71 countries, including
two historic residencies in South Africa. Runs March 2-7 at Orange County

The Second City: CAN YOU BE MORE PACIFIC?
The Second City comedy troupe is venturing “behind the Orange Curtain”
at The Laguna Playhouse. Speaking as an O.C. resident, there is truly a boun-
tiful supply of material in a variety of subjects. They come armed with their
latest mission; to acknowledge, spoof and trash cultural life in eclectic La-
guna Beach and the rest of Orange County. If you live in the O.C., according
to the website, you will likely see yourself; your neighbor and your favorite
plastic surgeon take a good ribbing. All topics are fair game! If you don’t
live in the O.C., then this is worth the drive, as you get to enjoy the new crop
of up-and-coming comedians doing what they love best, making people
laugh. Second City has spawned such talents as John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd,
Gilda Radner, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. Runs March 16-April 11 at The
