Accessing the striking ‘oblique’ oak staircase that punctures the ceramic textured
wall, the secondary dining area is revealed to the diner. This area comprises fixed
and loose leather seating with rich dark walnut timber used throughout for
storage and display and incorporates an intriguing carved pearlescent wall effect,
which runs the full length of the restaurant. The surface texture is somewhat like
capturing a ripple on water and transferring this to a permanent three-dimensional
frieze. The dining area then expands into a wider seated zone that is top lit with
a modern glazed lantern and incorporates party seating booths, all again richly
finished in walnut and leather. The wall finishes in a palette of champagne in this
area benefit from some beautiful and subtle wall coverings, that mimic an effect
that can only be described as ‘champagne smoke’. An exaggerated perception of
extra width is enhanced by the use of mirrored banding at low level, below the
seating bases. Additionally, distinctive square walnut veneered wall lights have
been selected in this area to emphasise and compliment the unusual vertical
finishes. The toilets are also accessed from this area - and these have been given a
thorough and distinctive overhaul including the addition of new sanitaryware and
pearlescent mosaic wall tiling and locked storage cupboards constructed in more
of the sumptuous rich walnut timber veneer.
