If you want knowledge and someone “in the know” about cattle and handling
equipment, then farmer and cattle dealer, David Sheppard is your
man. So much so that when RITCHIE, the Forfar based stock equipment
manufacturer, was looking to expand their cattle crush range, David helped
in the initial design and development of their new MOBILE CATTLE CRUSH.
That was three years ago and the relationship has blossomed.
David not only runs his own cattle breeding business, but travels as far as Carlisle
buying quality store cattle to supply his beef cattle customers. It was from this
business interest that David’s interest in RITCHIE handling equipment developed.
Many of his farming customers ask him for advice on what’s best in the market for
handling their stock and David’s keen eye settled on RITCHIE’S quality range to
provide the answers. Drawing on his 35 years of experience in the cattle business,
David is most complimentary about the way in which RITCHIE’S design team has
been helpful to him in drawing up site plans and systems to fit individual customer
needs. Be it 600 or 50 head of stock, a good detailed drawing covering all of the points to make stock handling safe and easy also enables
the installer to progress with confidence. “I like face to face meetings with my customers, rather than fax or email correspondence”
says David. “When I take a plan to present I like to be confident that the details and products illustrated are right for the job”.

The RITCHIE MOBILE CATTLE CRUSH is one of several specific products
designed with the welfare of both stockman and cattle in mind. Easily
adjustable neck yoke widths allow easy handling of cattle from calves to
full-grown bulls with complete access to both sides of the animal. Details
like rubber gate stops help to reduce noise and animal stress. Electronic
weighing and curved trombone handling systems are additions readily
available to complete a high specification requirement.
