Its focus is to attract and relocate retiree households
into Colquitt County through marketing our community
as an attractive place to retire.
The chamber’s retirement committee has developed a
stunning publication that highlights all the best features
of Colquitt County and the opportunities available to re-
tirees. Future plans for the committee include develop-
ment of activities geared specifically to retirees and the
promotion of those types of events already in place in
Colquitt County.
Again, the chamber’s members are its lifeline. Meet-
ing members’ needs and recruiting and retaining those
members are at the top of our list for both the staff and
the board. The Membership Development Committee
works to educate members on the benefits of their
membership and how to take advantage of these
opportunities. At least 90 percent of our 2009 members
have been retained this year. Our members are every-
thing!
Part of developing and educating members is letting
them know just how important they are to us. This is
where the Ambassadors Committee comes into play.
When a member sees a friendly face at their doorstep or

chances are it’s a chamber ambassador checking in to
make sure all the members’ needs are being met.
Lastly, the chamber strongly advocates keeping as
much money as possible in the county and for the
county. We believe that supporting local businesses by
shopping and spending at home will keep our local econ-
omy, not just afloat, but thriving. The chamber’s Retail
Development Committee is deeply committed to
increasing our retail sales and tax revenue.
You may have noticed the many business marquees
around the county welcoming guests who attend major
community events. The marquee campaign, which
began in 2008, is another initiative of the retail
committee.
In partnership with the Main Street Program and in an
effort to bring shoppers to Colquitt County, the cham-
ber’s retail committee also hosts workshops for local
businesses to assist them in marketing themselves on a
shoestring budget and through the Internet.
Highlighting members is our focus and aim. With
that in mind, the retail committee developed its newest
project just prior to 2009 - the recognition of the retail
business of the month. Each month, look to see where
the banner signifying a stellar chamber member lands,
