EATING AT SAPPORO | 59
Happy Birthday and paying full attention to the unassuming
birthday girl. If she loved it or hated it, we couldn’t decide.
My dining companion and I chose the Samurai from the set
menus, £36 per head for four courses. Mastering the art of
chopsticks we tucked into a traditional Japanese miso soup and
Namasu Japanese salad to start. Next up were some light and
fluffy tempura prawns and a crunchy spring roll filled with fresh,
crisp vegetables. A peppered salmon steak, perfectly pink in
colour and with a taste to match, preceded steak, king prawns and
sea bass. Fried rice accompanied the steak which was cooked to
perfection - although it really deserved its own billing after the
brilliant preparation. Whilst the rice was heating, crunchy fresh
vegetables were fried on the hot plate. Chef whisked the eggs
and fried them like an omelette, stretching and shaping into a
long thin strip. Bowls were balanced on the edge of the hot plate
and taking a sharp palette knife, he quickly chopped into the egg
from above so that it sprung into the air, landing with finesse in
the bowl before adding to the rice and vegetables. We finished
the meal with a light fruit cocktail to cleanse the palate.
You can easily spend a whole evening at Sapporo Teppanyaki,
taking your time and savouring each of the dishes and flavors
individually. I will be dining here again with my partner or
friends and would recommend this dining experience to
anyone looking to inject a bit of fun into eating out. I would also
recommend asking about seasoning preferences, however, as
some of the oils, salts and peppers are strong in flavour. Overall,
