Aslam gets royal
accolade
Mohammed Aslam, managing director and executive
chef of the Bradford-based Aagrah Group of restaurants,
has been honoured with an MBE in recognition for his
services to the hospitality industry in the Queen’s New
Year’s honours list.
Mohammed Aslam has enjoyed an influential career and
is recognised for setting and developing high culinary
standards in Kashmiri cuisine. As a former governor
of Thomas Danby College, an Academy of Excellence in
catering and hospitality, he continues to promote train-
ing, personal professional development and education
across the hospitality and catering sector.
Aslam and the Aagrah Group have been awarded several
major national industry accolades over the years. Last
year, for example, he was named as United Kingdom
Ethnic Chef of the Year 2009.
When asked how he felt about this honour, Mohammed
Aslam said, “ This award is not just for me but for Aagrah
as a whole; the Aagrah staff and my family. I am truly
grateful for the support that everyone has given me and
especially to the British hospitality industry who have
accepted Aagrah as a leader in Kashmiri Cuisine.
He also paid tribute to the many loyal Aagrah custom-
ers. “Without them this would not have been possible,”
he pointed out.
