Restaurants give
youngsters a taste of
the East
A group of youngsters were given a lesson with a
difference when they visited the Jewel in the Crown
Indian restaurant in Swindon’s Old Town. Around 30
pupils from from Nythe Primary School learned how
to make naan bread and chicken tikka, before sam-
pling the food afterwards. The children were doing a
special topic in India and the visit helped the teacher
give her pupils a real insight into an important part of
Indian culture.
The Royal Balti in Farnworth, near Bolton, also played
host to a group of school children, from St Peters
School, recently, and they received a cooking lesson
at the hands of chef Mohammed Abdus Sabus. Owner
Nurul Meah discovered that one of his regular cus-
tomers, Amanda Smith, was a teacher at the school
and restaurant manager Iqbal Bahar Bhaiyan, known
to everyone as Jewel, helped organise the visit.
Mrs Smith said, “The chef and Jewel were absolutely
marvelous with the children. They made a big fuss of
them and were very patient.”
