Editor’s letter
I am delighted to step on board as editor of First Eleven. With
four very different children, I am constantly asking “which
school” and “what education” and feel that this magazine,
written by professionals for the parents of independently
educated children, could have been written for me. So I look
forward to sharing my journey with you as I hope you will share yours with us.
We spend more money on education than almost anything else, so First
Eleven examines the advantages of private education in our feature
In and Out, and asks where schools should invest in What price good facilities?
Finance aside, nothing concentrates the mind more than a child diagnosed
with special needs. In this edition, we launch our ‘In Focus’ section with two
features: Dyslexia: What’s in a word and Mainstream or special school?
