BECKETT’S BUTTON
Based on his own colorful true life story, Andreas Beckett relives his lusty journey from native Germany through
finding his way in America. He began playing Ice Hockey at the age of seven, and by sixteen was a five-time
champion. Once in New York, he eventually submerged himself into a reckless life of sex, alcohol and gangs, thus
“Beckett’s button” was born. That button, when pushed, was rage, which led to many ugly scenes and unfortunate
outcomes. In his musical dramedy solo piece, he evolves right before your eyes and eventually discovers love. The
show is directed and scored by the married show biz veteran’s, Ken and Mitzie Welch, both of which have an impres-
sive list of television credits, including years with The Carol Burnett Show. I recently attended a one-time Benefit
Series Performance at the Santa Monica Playhouse with my partner. We both thought Beckett was damn sexy and
very entertaining. Performances will resume as part of the Whitefire Solo Series at the Whitefire Theatre.
Beckett’s Button reopens: Sunday, February 7, 2010 and runs through the summer of 2010 (only once a month).
Whitefire Theatre is located at 13500 Ventura Blvd, Sherman Oaks. Tickets: 818.760.7337 or whitefiretheatre.com.

THE SUBJECT WAS ROSES
When it comes to family, there are three sides to every story; at least in the Pulitzer
Prize winning play, The Subject Was Roses, it’s true. The story chronicles a young
man’s return from World War II and how he becomes a catalyst for an emotional tug-
of-war in which love is both the prize and the weapon. Martin Sheen returns to the
play that earned him a Tony Award nomination in 1964—but now as the patriarch
of a family, he is forced to confront exploding emotions and buried truths. Frances
Conroy (Six Feet Under) and Brian Geraghty (The Hurt Locker) complete the struggling
tumultuous family triangle. All try to reconnect after years of emotional distance
with the hope to rediscover the beauty in a simple gift of roses. February 10 - March
21 at Mark Taper Forum, 135 N. Grand Ave. L.A. Audience Services: 213.628.2772 or
