British Wool will bring their ‘Naturally Green ‘
campaign to Surfaces 2010 backed by their recent en-
vironmental Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) report, giving
scoured British Wool an internationally recognised
standard of environmental credibility. The British
Wool Marketing Board (BWMB) invested in the 12
month study, which was completed by Leeds
University - the centre of expertise for non-woven
textile research in the UK and it has been done to the
industry standard ISO 14040. Analysing the wool
from the sheep in the field to the end of the scouring
process, the study determined that the impact of
British Wool on the environment is measurably less
than either nylon or polypropylene fibres and con-
cludes that the sustainability of scoured British wool
production is much better than that of polypropylene
and nylon fibre productions. Positioning British Wool
as the ‘Planet Friendly fibre for Carpet’, the British
Wool Marketing Board is appealing to manufacturers
and retailers to consider wool as their first choice for
