NEW ASIA
VENUEVENUE
SINGAPORE
SINGAPORE
When it comes to Singapore bars, New Asia has long featured
high on the list of visitor recommendations. It’s not hard to see
why; located on the 71st floor of The Stamford Hotel tower, the
venue has full height, wrap-around windows offering patrons the
perfect panaorama of the city below. From 3pm onwards, tourists
and residents alike come to watch the sun set with a cocktail in
hand, grab a bite to eat and, as the cityscape becomes a twinkling
sea of lights, to enjoy a varied DJ mix of house, classics, new age,
funk, Motown and electro.
After many successful years at the top, the venue was in danger
of looking tired and a little dated, so the team at The Stamford
embarked on a renovation process aimed at re-injecting a touch
of style and class. To help with this task a new manager, Steven
Ignatiadis, was drafted in. Ignatiadis’s 15 years in the industry have
included a stint running the prestigious Post Bar at the Fullerton
Hotel, Singapore, so he was well versed in what makes a good bar
truly great. For New Asia, he was keen to bring the DJ decks to
the centre of the space - previously they had been tucked at the
far end of the venue’s elongated L-shape room - and install a top
quality sound system.
“My ability to distinguish different types of sounds was good,
and I knew what type of sound I wanted for the club, however I
spent six months studying to learn all the technical aspects,” says
Ignatiadis of the sound system selection process. “There are so
many good brands and products on the market … and passionate
sales people, which made it challenging.”
There was, says Ignatiadis, a number of factors to consider. High
ceilings meant the club lent itself to a line array system - one that
