I don’t think it’d be taken as an understatement that 2009
was a tough year, the continuing fallout of the banking crisis
reverberated through every industry including our own. Without
wanting to bore you with an amateur economics diatribe, I
think it is universally felt that we aren’t going to be coming out
of this in a hurry. Most certainly not if the banks continue the

G practice of shoring up their balance sheets and refusing to

loosen their lending criteria, and don’t free up some cash for

y
companies to borrow.
However, as with all recessions there are some interesting

developments, firstly companies that have poor financial

P stability either disappear or are amalgamated into healthier

r
,
w
rivals and secondly there is always a whole new rash of new

E start-ups with all the exuberance they bring to the market. LDI
