Chinese at St Columba’s
Our new Chinese Language Assistant (CLA), Ms Li,
arrived in September 2009 via a British Council exchange
programme.
During the Autumn Term Ms Li was primarily involved with
the Senior VI classes, teaching language and culture. The
highlight of her week she says has been the opportunity to join SVI in
their weekly cookery lesson as part of the Independent-Living module.
This is not a subject offered to pupils in China, and Ms Li is enthusiastic
about the idea of encouraging pupils to develop life as well as academic
skills.
She’s now looking forward to supporting
the Modern Studies module on China
for SII pupils, and introducing Junior 6
to the basics of Chinese language.
Kilmacolm Scouts
Christmas Tree Sales - John Watt from Glenmoss Landscapes once again
kindly gave us the use of his truck to make this a great success.
Beavers - We have a fun-packed 2010 planned for the boys. In November
we had a very entertaining and informative talk from Dougie Hendry of
Kelburn Country Estate in Largs, who brought three different types of
owl with him.
Cubs - The Christmas Party was a great success.
Cubs completed their astronomy badge in January.
We are now completing the last two Challenge
badges for most of the pack. This will mean they
can achieve their Chief Scout Silver award - the
highest a Cub can achieve. Activities planned
include visits and of course our annual May camp
to Everton.
Royal Geographical Society
Scouts - The Scouts will be holding a Disability Night, Wildlife Night,

Langbank Under 3’s
We meet every Friday (during term time) from 10am to 11.45am in The
Church Hall, Main Street, Langbank. All children from birth to 3 years
are welcome to play games, sing songs and make new friends. This is an
informal group and is a great place to meet other parents, grandparents
and carers. Please join us for coffee and a chat while the children play
and have fun.
During December, we enjoyed an Octokids session with Liz Murray, a
lively and fun music and movement session tailored toward babies and
toddlers. Liz will be with us again on Friday 5th February and Friday 19th
March. The Christmas party was a success, the children enjoyed party
games, party food and a present from Santa. We raised £50 towards our
funds at the Langbank Christmas Tree light up event, thank you to all
who attended and supported us. For further information, contact Julie
Gilmour on 01475 540103 or Tracy O’Malley on 01475 540724.
