One day for Brownies we roller skated inside our garage (my mom was our leader,
in Astoria
Tuesday-Saturday 10am - 5:30pm
and it was raining hard in Eugene). We had the skates that required a key, and were
clipped onto our outdoor shoes. I remember a lot of time spent on the cement floor,
after crashing, reattaching my skates. I also remember how much FUN we had! Seri-

Staying up past bedtime
Reserved only for very special occasions like Christmas Eve and the occasion-
al drive-in movie, a super big deal for us was staying up past bedtime, i.e., 8 p.m.
Once, I was the only one of us four kids allowed to stay up to watch the remain-
der of “The Sound of Music” on TV. Not only did I feel very grown up, I was so
relieved to know that Maria and her new family made it over the mountains to safe-
ty – far away from the men in those menacing black cars.
Yellowstone National Park
Working at Yellowstone two summers during break from University of Oregon
was exceptionally cool, but getting there was quite an ordeal. At age 19, I had not
yet traveled alone, and there I was boarding a Greyhound bus at a gas station in

www.nwwomenssurfcamps.com I got to marry my best friend 28 years ago this April. I wore my mom’s wed-
ding gown in the same church in which my mom and dad were married; an auspi-
cious beginning! We honeymooned in Disneyland. Back then we used travel agents,
and upon learning that this was a honeymoon trip, the agent (unbeknownst to us)
arranged for a complimentary upgrade of our room at the Disneyland Hotel to a pent-
house suite and extra E-tickets for Disneyland Park. Magical!
