Northern Ireland promised higher speed
broadband by 2011
B
usinesses in Northern Ireland are being promised access to 10 Mbps broadband by next year. It’s
hoped that the availability of faster web access will encourage business development and further
uptake and investment in IT. The new plans will see 85 percent of businesses connected to high
speed broadband by 2011. Just over 40 percent of the total investment of £48 million (€53 million)
is being provided by BT with the rest coming from the Department of Enterprise Trade and
Investment and European development funds for rural areas.
With access to high speed broadband, businesses are better able to provide remote access to
users, make use of VoIP and videoconferencing and access online services and applications.
Computer 2000 can help you address opportunities in all of these developing areas.
