The recommendation included reskilling and providing Microsoft

.NET certification for the legacy COBOL developers as part of an
outplacement project that would provide them with the skills
needed for their future careers.
The solution

The training programme was designed to run over a 12-week
timeline. As part of the communication process for the
individuals, QA worked with Experian to run a number of
seminars hosted jointly by Experian, the recruitment agency,
Microsoft and QA.
These sessions presented the job openings that existed in the
local area around the Microsoft technologies, the developer
certification paths available and the opportunities available
through certification. The training solution was explained, so that
the developers understood what they would benefit from if they
invested their reskilling funds with QA.
The programme was a complete success – and a key factor in
this was the individuals themselves buying into the programme,
using the funding they were given by Experian as part of their
outplacement package to invest in these skills.
