Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 1 Presented by RTÉ
Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4
Performing Groups
Fate Takes A Hand
Exciting young conductor Dmitri Jurowski of the famous musical dynasty
makes his RTÉ NSO début. Shostakovich’s youthful concerto is witty and
colourful, a panoply of parody and knockabout. Tchaikovsky’s 4th is full of
volatile contrasts: biting drama, profound melancholy, shattering tragedy, and
an emotional tension arguably unsurpassed in the symphonic repertoire for
its sheer physical thrill. Stand back!
