INDULGENCES outrageous by daisy torres
“Here we are born to be kings and the princess of the universe.”
At the beginning of every new year I like to embrace a new positive
attitude and 2010 is no exception. A new year is filled with poten-
tial for new and exciting adventures for me and Ruby, so we are
looking forward to a fun-filled January. We’re going to take the bull
by the horns and get out and about. In my family we have a saying
about new year’s eve, “You start the new year the way you want the
new year to be,” and I started the new year in San Francisco enjoy-
ing a new city and new experiences. It would be nice if 2010 is a
year filled with new adventures and traveling.
As much as I enjoy I place where I can wear a coat and scarf and
look like a winter princess, no city can beat our weather here in
Southern California. So put the coats aside and party dress in full
display. Let’s get the iPhones out and schedule some fun events to
kick off January in a fun and exciting way.
Mark McGrath may be the face of TV’s Extra, but he is still shaking
that cute butt of his with Sugar Ray. Coming to the Galaxy Theater
in Santa Ana January 23, and if you go you will be sure to get your
own butt shaking as you dance along to their many fly hits and
songs from their new release from 2009, Music for Cougars. I won-
der if that makes me a cougar... in gay years I suppose I do qualify
as a cougar.
But allow me to regress from the music of my adolescence to
the music of my childhood with a recommendation from my all
time favorite childhood musical. Mary Poppins is the perfect mix
of priceless memories and timeless songs. “Chim Chim Cher-ee”,
“Let’s Go Fly a Kite” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialadocious” are
unforgetable songs that have ingrained themselves in the ameri-
can psyche. The musical shows at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los
Angeles. For more info and tickets visit
CenterTheatreGroup.org or
call 213.972.4400. Bring your inner child for a night in the town.
For more a more adult-oriented show, (No, I don’t mean “adult”
show) The Golden Gays are back! This fall’s runaway hit drag
musical spoof and tribute is back in 2010 with their first tour. The
elderly girls’ jaunt will begin with a grand re-opening of the show
at the Meta Theatre (Melroseand Fairfax in Hollywood). The tour
continues on to Palm Springs and South Beach, Miami. Shows in all
three cities will donate some of the proceeds to gay related chari-
ties. Tickets and more information can be found on the website
thegoldengays.com. You know The Golden Girls were the Sex and
the City girls of their generation.
Working for this magazine means that I always have to be think-
Daisy anD Ruby’s
ing one month ahead, so as you read this, I will be immersed in
trying to figure out what fun things to present for February and
ADVENTURES
planning my birthday celebrations. Yes, this princess is a Pisces. So
in the meantime, go out and enjoy some great adventures.
Xoxo
