Celebration of Life
22 December 2009
A celebration of Joe’s life was held Dec. 22 in the club’s Ballroom
following the funeral. Several hundred people attended and shared
their Joe stories publicly or privately. To start the event, MAC President
Ross Meinhart reads the city of Portland’s proclamation. Longtime
friend Bud Lewis shares some of their memories while photos of Joe
are displayed. In addition to the memorial and signing table in the Main
Lobby, the club honors Joe with a ribbon displayed next to his glass
portrait on the south wall of the clubhouse.
The city of Portland honored Joe by proclaiming Dec. 22, 2009
as a “Day of Recognition for Joe Loprinzi.”
Miss Me, But Let Me Go
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room.
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not too long,
And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared.
Miss me, but let me go.
For this is a journey we all must take
And each must go alone.
It’s all part of the Master’s plan,
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart,
Go to the friends we know.
Bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss me, but let me go.
This poem was read at Joe’s funeral
by his niece, Mercedes Loprinzi. The
poem was a favorite of Joe and one
that he read at recent funerals. Joe’s
request to his family and friends was
that the poem be read at his funeral.
