If You Give a Child a Book…
by Sheila Murray
It’s once again the season of list making. The holidays are fast approaching, and finding
that perfect gift for each child is essential. What better gift for a young child than that of a
book?
When I look at books, I do not see outdated resources as a result of technology. I see an
opportunity to enter another world, the possibility to alter the present state, and a chance to

has always been a book. And now, every milestone or special occasion in the life of a

The youngest children enjoy books with colorful, vivid pictures and unsophisticated plots
or stories in rhyme. Books about different cultures or stories that provide new experiences,
such as folktales, are also fitting choices. Almost always suitable are books that support a
child’s interests.
