Message from the Headmaster...
At Merchiston we are all delighted with these academic results, which highlight the best A Level A-B grades, and GCSE A* and A
grades in Scotland*. Not only are they excellent collective results, but to us they tell the story of each individual young man – they are
the result of his hard work, and the passport to the next stage in his life. e roots of these results started many years ago, and the
foundations of the results of the future are currently being laid, starting with our youngest boys, aged 8, in J4. Dedicated teaching staff,
small class sizes and a motivating, single-sex learning environment ensure that each boy can reach his potential. And we must remember
that for some a set of B and C grades at GCSE level is just as huge an achievement as 4 As and entry to Oxford University is for another.
A career at Merchiston encapsulates so much: the sporting, musical and cultural opportunities, as well as leadership skills, service
and preparation for life. Crucially though, boys must focus on their academic studies, and that focus leads to the very impressive
