Dollar Tan:
Serving it Up at
rockwell vt
LA’s newest hotspot / restaurant / bar / lounge presented by
Chris Diamond, Wayne Elias and Tom Whitman is Rockwell VT.
Located out of the WEHO boystown in the artsy neighborhood
of Los Feliz, they opened on September 19th. Friday nights
they are now having instant success with their gay night, called
“Stag Fridays.” We wanted to see what all the buzz was about
and spoke with one of their bartenders, Dollar Tan to get the
scoop.
The Rage Monthly: So Rockwell VT is brand new, where did you bartend
before coming here?
Dollar Tan: I used to bartend in a place called 9000 on Sunset
Blvd. but it closed down about five years ago. After that, I mostly
focused on my acting career but also tended bar at private par-
ties. I came to work at Rockwell VT when they first opened.
Rage: How has the crowd been so far?
DT: It is a really good crowd. It’s fun and everyone has been
having a great time. We have been pretty busy the whole night
long. On our opening night Christina Aguilera came in and
stayed until closing. We’ve had a lot of celebrities come in. In
fact, Rockwell VT was just featured in a recent episode of The
Hills.
Rage: What are some of your signature drinks?
DT: At Rockwell VT we have a huge selection of premium
alcohols and at least 20 signature drinks. There’s a lot that we
muddle. One drink I like to make a lot is called the Addison. It’s
made with lemon, dill, and fresh cucumbers muddled up. We
add gin, St. Germain, soda and simple syrup. It’s really good. It’s
a popular drink that I make a lot. There’s also the Gemini, which
is ruby red vodka, St. Germain, a couple pieces of jalapeño,
muddled with grapefruit. We also have a mojito called a Mojo
Mojito. It’s limes, mint leaves, sugar, and some mandarin vodka
and soda. It’s very refreshing. We also have a ginger berry mar-
tini made with muddled raspberries, canton ginger, raspberry
vodka triple sec, lime and cranberry juice.
Rage: What is your food menu like?
DT:We have an extensive menu. Everything from flat bread
pizza to filet tacos and tuna tacos to ravioli to steaks. It’s a tapas-
style menu.
Rage: What type of music can we expect?
DT: We always have music jamming. We have resident DJs Josh
Peace, Ryan Kenney and Scotty K spinning music most nights.
Rage: Do you have live entertainment?
DT: Vermont connected next-door is owned by two of the same
owners (Chris and Wayne) as Rockwell VT. They have a lot of
cabaret shows. A lot of cast members from Broadway shows
come in and sing. The casts from Wicked and other shows have
come in and usually spill over to Rockwell VT.
Rockwell VT is located at 1714 N. Vermont Ave. Los Angeles. Enter in alley
