J
amie Oliver’s business empire continues to grow apace with the opening of his latest venue, Jamie’s
Italian, in Cardiff. This is the seventh Jamie’s Italian to open (it seems, in as many months!) and is sure
to continue the tradition of success that seems almost inevitable with the Oliver brand.
Celebrated London-based designer Martin Brudnizki was commissioned by Jamie to design the concept
for these highly successful, neighbourhood restaurants. The fundamental design principles for the
restaurants emphasise the use of natural materials in an uncontrived manner, together with quirky flea
market finds, to create a rustic but contemporary environment with witty detailing.
In designing the Cardiff restaurant, Brudnizki has created a sophisticated and warm atmosphere for this
high-energy restaurant. The rustic reclaimed oak and copper pendants are accompanied by highlights of
pink colour from the leather banquettes and lime mosaic tiling on the bar.
A five-tiered, 2.3 metre high bespoke chandelier using vintage glass-links is the centrepiece, which sits
comfortably within the black steel and oak detailing throughout the space. With an open kitchen and a
stunning pewter, antipasti bar (supplied
by specialist, Zinc Counters - see ad
