he Christmas party season is the only ‘anything
T
goes’ occasion in the fashion calendar,
when every woman feels the urge to ditch
her practical winter staples and don all that
sparkles. But we’ve seen this a million times before
– shop rails overflowing with sequins and not much else.
Well this year it’s different: with the current financial
climate still at the forefront of consumers’ minds, the
high street is upping its game.
Of course, the sparkle is still there – the office Christmas
do wouldn’t be the same without it – but think less
cutesy fairy, more pixie punk. Studs, black leather, and
huge shoulders are essentials, along with texture: lace
tights, fur jackets and velvet dresses are all key items in
any party girl’s wardrobe. But don’t get carried away;
when it comes to glitz, a little goes a long way. Hair is
just as rebellious, with dishevelled ‘dos accessorised with
bejewelled clips and geometric hairbands, meaning that
no matter how raucous the party gets, your hair will still
be bang on trend at the end of the night and could even be
recycled the next morning.

fundamental if you’re treating yourself to a new suit this
Christmas and, if you’re feeling really brave, top it off with
a jewel-toned bowtie or skinny scarf to complete the look.
