Elaine Pears

Successful National Diploma students may choose to apply directly to one of the services or continue their studies at Higher Education level, choosing degrees such as criminology.

Uniformed Public Services tutors at Boston College have a wealth of knowledge and expertise to share with students. Lecturer Alan Brickwood served for 22 years in the Corps Royal Engineers as an Engineer Logistic Specialist, with tours of duty in countries as far afield as Canada, Cyprus and Belize. Before coming to Boston College, Alan received a commendation for his work with the Army in the Former Yugoslavia, followed by a stint working with young people who had been excluded from school.

Elaine completed her first year on the National Diploma in Uniformed Public Services with the aim of one day joining the forces.

“I really enjoyed the team work element as well as the exhibitions we had to attend. All of which really helped when putting my application in to the Army. I made a lot of good friends whilst on the course all of which have moved on to a career in the forces”.
