NVQ level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Candidates will produce a portfolio of evidence to cover 6 mandatory units: • Help to keep children safe • Promote positive behaviour • Develop and promote positive relationships • Support the development and effectiveness of work teams • Reflect on and develop practice
In addition, candidates will choose 4 optional units from 5 option groups.
ATTENDANCE: 1 evening per fortnight (6.00pm- 8.00pm); the NVQ level 2 should take one year and the NVQ level 3 up to 18 months plus work placement (volunteers should have a placement of minimum 10 hours per week). ENTRY: All applicants should: • Be over the age of 18 • Have a good standard of literacy and numeracy • Have access to a work placement in a school (NVQ level 2) • Be employed in a role which supports pupils (NVQ level 3)
Teaching and Training Adults and Young
People: One day taster course This taster day will give candidates who have expertise or skills to share and have considered teaching as a career the opportunity to discuss prospects with professionals in further education and to try their hand at some of the skills and activities used to plan and teach in post-16 education. The course will introduce induction, managing students and planning learning. At the end of the day candidates will take away an outline plan for next steps into teaching. City & Guilds 7303 Preparing to Teach in
the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) This introductory toolkit is suitable for those considering teaching or training in this sector, as well as new entrants to the profession. It meets new national standards for entry to teaching in post-compulsory education as well as providing the knowledge, skills and confidence to plan and deliver effectively. This practical course can be gained at level 3 or level 4 and will cover the roles
and responsibilities of the teacher, approaches to teaching and learning, working effectively with learners and assessment methods. It will meet the national standards for entry to teaching in post- compulsory education. Assessment will cover both practical and theoretical aspects of teaching and learning. It provides the threshold licence to teach in Post-16 Education. ATTENDANCE: Evening courses: 1 evening per week (6.00pm - 9.00pm) for 10 weeks. ENTRY: All applicants should: • Be over the age of 18 • Have a good standard of literacy and numeracy • Normally have a Level 3 in their subject area.
City and Guilds 7304 Level 3 & 4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong
Learning Sector This qualification is for pre-service or in-service associate teacher/trainers. It is suitable for people who are considering work or currently work within the lifelong learning sector. ATTENDANCE: The course will be delivered one day a week for 20 weeks for the theory elements of the course. You will also have three, one hour teaching observations within your work or voluntary placement. ENTRY: Candidates should have a level 3 qualification or significant experience in the subject they intend to teach, have access to 30 teaching practice hours and have reasonable levels of language, literacy and numeracy, GCSE grade English grade C or above.
Through the Huddersfield Consortium Certificate in Education (Cert Ed) Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Post-Compulsory Education and Training
(In-Service) Huddersfield University This course is suitable for candidates who teach or train adults and young people in colleges or in vocational training contexts, for instance candidates from police, fire services, health service and commercial training providers. The course is an in service course (candidates need paid teaching in order to join the course) and offers trainees the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge needed to teach in the lifelong learning sector. Successful completion of this course can offer progression to Bachelors or Masters level study.
