If you are looking to develop your teaching skills with adults and young people in further education, or supporting skills for children and young people in schools one of these courses may be ideal for you.

With training that is flexible and effectively delivered, there are opportunities throughout the academic year for anyone with an interest in teaching or class room support to build on their ambitions.

We hold a variety of Teaching Information Sessions throughout the year which will give you the opportunity to discuss whether the programmes we offer are suitable for you.

Kim Elkington Supporting Teaching and Learning in

Schools • NVQ 2 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools • NVQ 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools

New standards for these qualifications have led to an improved award which will appeal to schools, further education colleges and private training providers working with schools. The award is designed for all staff who work with teachers in classrooms (teaching assistant, classroom assistant, learning support assistant and special needs assistant) and has broadened to include new roles such as cover supervisor. The award is also suitable for volunteers.

Volunteers are generally recommended to undertake level 2. Those employed in a role which supports pupils with their learning may be more suitable for the NVQ level 3 qualification.

NVQ level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Candidates will produce a portfolio of evidence to cover 5 mandatory units: • Provide support for learning activities • Support children’s development

Kim moved to Boston 5 ½ years ago with her son, who found it quite difficult to settle into school so she started helping in his classroom. This was just the start of Kim’s interest in teaching and she found herself volunteering in various classes over the years.

“By volunteering in the school I realised that I wanted to do something different. I decided last year after 4 years volunteering that I would like to teach properly so I spoke to the College and spoke to the School to get their support of a placement which is a requirement”.

The course has helped Kim to develop her knowledge in how to help different children to learn. “It has really opened my eyes as to what a Teaching Assistant does need to know. It has helped me understand the need to develop, as well as the different types of learning that can be used”.

• Help to keep children safe • Contribute to positive relationships • Provide effective support for your colleagues

In addition, candidates will choose 2 of 12 optional units.
