Energetic people looking for an active career can choose from a range of suitable courses at Boston College offering preparation for the rapidly expanding Sports and Leisure industries.
Our popular Sports courses make use of a range of indoor and outdoor facilities, both on and off campus.
We stand out from other learning providers, not only because of our expert staff, but also because we can offer you a range of additional courses to complement your full-time studies. You will have the opportunity each week to play and learn more about football through our Football Performance and Coaching strand which gives you practical football skills and coaching techniques. Alternatively, the YMCA Gym Instructor courses focus on the techniques and equipment used in modern Gyms, including Cardio and Resistance machines, plus developing fitness and mobility programmes for clients. The Community Sports Leader award prepares you to coach and lead others in a community or team environment, and includes coaching experience.
All of these awards are highly practical in nature and could give you the edge in the employment market.
Reece Chapman
Reece originally planned to stay on at school and study for his A Levels, but after his first year he discovered it was no longer for him. “I was very focussed on the fact that I wanted to study Sport so I thought a move to college would be a better one for me”.
“The course is exactly what I had expected; it is pointing me straight in the direction to achieve my personal aims and goals. We have practical sessions every day, balanced with the background theory”.
Aside from college Reece has a part-time job which he finds easy to fit around college hours.
Sports Studies
BTEC First Diploma Level 2 Study of the Sports industry and the impact of sports on the body are combined with practical support and additional qualifications such as the Community Sports Leaders Award. ATTENDANCE: 1 year. ENTRY: 4 GCSEs at D plus a good reference.
After Reece has finished his second year he hopes to go onto university where he will study Sports Science or Sports Coaching. This he hopes to use towards a career in Teaching. “The tutors here have been very supportive and really encourage you to do well; I can see myself teaching secondary age students in the future”.
